Elizabeth Eloise Wilkes, Eloise to her family and friends, was born in Durant, Mississippi, the daughter of Benjamin B. and Elvira (nicknamed Dump) Heffner Wilkes. Eloise attended Ward-Belmont School for Girls and Young Women in Nashville, Tennessee, and Shorter College in Rome, Georgia where she graduated circa 1915. John Sharp Williams of Mississippi was a congressman 1893-1907 and a senator 1911-1923. At the time of the writing of this letter he was chairman of the Senate Committee on the Library.
